WAKO Full Contact Kickboxing World Champion Monika Markowska recently visited Red Star to conduct a series of training seminars. Monika’s background is Taekwon-Do and still trains and teaches at Jersey Warriors Kickboxing club on the Channel Islands.
Originally from Poland, Monika moved to Jersey 10 years ago where she continued her career in the ring. In 2011 she became the first female fighter in Britain to win a full contact WAKO world title.
Red Star coach Jon Mackey had this to say about the visit:
“I first heard about Monika after she took the world title in 2011. I sought her out through social media and found her to be a very dedicated, immensely active and positive person. She has all the hall marks of a very inspirational fighter. As many will know Red Star has a tough team of female fighters so I thought bringing Monika over would be great, not only for them, but for the whole club. Monika didn’t fail to impress either – she was world class”
The training seminar looked at transitioning from light to full contact and included some sweet FC drills. The session then went on to look at K1 and K1 rules, including the use of knees, low kicks and clinch.
The seminar was very well received by all who attended both young and old. No doubt Monika has earned herself a whole band of Red Star fans. We wish her well in her final preparations for the WAKO worlds coming up in Turkey at the end of November.
