Red Star Kickboxing club recently held an initiative to promote women’s participation in the sport of Kickboxing. The initiative which was backed by the Irish Martial Arts Commission and the Irish Sports Council was designed to give woman in the locality a taster class as an introduction to Kickboxing. The class was led by one of Red Star’s leading female competitors Neidin Coulahan. Neidin is a former European champion in the sport of Taekwon-Do and in 2013 won the UITF World Taekwon-Do championships in London.
The class covered a range of beginner fundamentals and fitness work and by all accounts everyone had a great time.
Red Star is no stranger to female champions, the club which is based between Cabra and Finglas boasts an impressive line up of female champions both in the sport of Kickboxing and Taekwon-Do.
Red Star coach Jon Mackey had this to say:
“We were delighted to host this initiative at Red Star and when the opportunity arose we jumped on it. We have a fine record of producing some great female fighters, as well as Neidin who won the UITF words this year, we also have Lauren Bradshaw, Laura Flynn, Erika Walsh and Lauren Russell who all won international titles this year. For me women are natural fighters, they become outstanding competitors in combat sports because of that natural drive to succeed, so we were delighted to host such an initiative to attract more women into our sport”
Red Star Kickboxing now hosts a women’s only Kickboxing class every Tuesday evening it’s full time training facility based on the Ballyboggan Road, Dublin 11.
